  • How does the Kid's Fun Run work?

Registration for The Fun Run will take place at the Mallway beginning at 8:30 AM.  Upon check-in, families and children will head over to the Jones Track.  The races will begin promptly at 9:00 so be sure to get their early!  The races will be in 3 different heats of 1 lap (suggested ages 5 and under), 2 laps (suggested ages 6-8), and 4 laps (suggested ages 9+).  Immediately following the run, children and families are encouraged to head back to the Mallway to receive their medals and prize!  Our top three children fundraisers will be announced at the opening ceremony of The Berkshire Triathlon.  Plus, we'll hopefully have some food trucks with donuts, coffee, and sweets!  You don’t want to miss it!
  • Is the event competitive?

No - it is just for fun!  We consider it an entry-level triathlon, perfect for those who have thought about trying one but are put off by long training times and a high number of participants/competitors.  You will see some participants with some real tri gear though, as we have attracted local triathletes who want to contribute their passion for a good cause.
  • How old does my kid have to be to do the triathlon?

We are excited to host triathlon and duathlon participants under the age of 18.  But because there are road crossings and long stretches of the bike and run without supervision, we require that those under 18 participate with someone over the age of 18.  Hope to see lots of caregiver-kiddo combos this year!
  • Do I need to buy expensive equipment?

Not at all - it’s possible to compete with equipment you have in your garage and closet.  In fact, most people just use their everyday bicycle.
  • I’m not a strong swimmer/biker/runner. Can I skip a section or have someone else do a part for me?

Absolutely! We want you to do what you feel is best for YOU! We never want a participant to feel like they have to do anything. After all, this is the “TRY!”
  • How much training do I need for a sprint distance triathlon?

If you can do a 5K or a turkey trot, you can do the Berkshire Try-athlon.  But while this is not a competitive race, you might enjoy it more if you prepare a little.  Training for your First Triathlon and Sprint Triathlon Training for the Beginner can help you learn about training.  Or, if you don't want to do all of it by yourself, gather up a team and split up each portion of the race amongst yourselves.
  • What’s the layout of the Berkshire Tri?

The event starts and stops at the Mallway Park in Upper Arlington. The swim takes place at Devon Pool, next to Jones Middle School. The bike course is an out and back on the Olentangy Trail. The run course is neighborhood sidewalks. Both bike and run courses are marked with Berkshire Tri signs. View distances and maps
  • Where do I put my event equipment?

When you pull up for the event, you can put your bike at the pool where we have responsible volunteers waiting. After registration, you can go to the pool where you can put a change of clothes for after the swim. Another volunteer will be with your belongings to ensure your items stay safe! After the swim when you are ready to bike, a volunteer will check you off and get your bike. Lastly, after the bike, a volunteer will take your bike and put it in our designated bike area where volunteers will be with it at all times. Our main priority is your safety and the safety of your items!
  • When is packet pickup?

Because the Berkshire Tri is an entry-level, non-competitive event, there is no timing system or race numbers required, so no need to pick up any packets before race day. You can pick up your Berkshire Tri swag when you check in around 9:30 AM before the race.
  • Where do I park for the event?

As you pull up to the event, there is a parking lot across from the Mallway Park. There is also street parking near the event. We will have volunteers guiding you as to where to park!
  • How do I register as a team?

We welcome people doing the triathlon or duathlon as a team.  One person can do each or more than one leg of either event. For example, Lama, Maya, and Amalee could each be on a single team doing the triathlon where Lama does the swim, Maya does the bike, and Amalee runs. Each person on a team must register separately though. That way, everyone signs a waiver, everyone checks in, everyone gets swag, and everyone can try hard, have fun, and help kids heal!
  • What is Flying Horse Farms and Ronald McDonald House?

  • What kid-friendly activities do you do on race day?

We understand during the race, many family members come to support their loved ones! That’s why we have made it a priority to make it a family friendly event! There will be face painting, arts and crafts at the local art studio directly across from the event!
  • What food options are available on race day?

We are incredibly fortunate to have Frank & Carl's cater the event the day of the race. After you finish your triathlon, delicious food will be waiting for you!
